August 21, 2008: In a story that keeps on giving, there are now reports that the International Olympics Committee (IOC) is launching a probe into the age of Chinese gymnasts.  Commentators have complained for days about the age of these diminutive stars, many of whom look like pre-teens.  The IOC responding to the growing chorus of complaints has decided to investigate the matter.  An official of the committee referred to discrepancies in the age of double Gold Medal winner He Kexin, which prompted the investigation.  Her passport shows that she was born on January 1, 1992; however, other documents have been discovered that indicate her birth date as January 1, 1994.   Gymnasts must be at least sixteen years old to compete meaning a contestant born in 1994 would be ineligible.   The results of the investigation are not likely to published until after the closing ceremonies, thus saving the Chinese hosts from any potential embarrassment should the claim of cheating be verified. < Prev   Next >
