August 14, 2008: Rumors abound to day that President Pervez Musharraf has been persuaded by his political opponents that it is time for him to leave office.  Musharraf, who came to power in Pakistan following a military coup, has faced mounting criticism from all levels of Pakistani society.  The rumored agreement is designed to forestall impeachment proceedings against the beleaguered president; the Pakistani parliament is scheduled to being the action to remove Musharraf from office in the next few days. < Prev   Next >
