September 8, 2009: Bó and Brí made the journey today from Coulterville, CA to Pasadena. Coulterville is a small, rural town located by Yosemite National Park. The area is beautiful, sparsely populated but it seemed somewhat crowded with hundreds of overseas tourists. The two Irish Wolfhound puppies were bred by Carla Zayac; they're part of her second litter. About half of their lineage traces back to the Eagle line of the late, great Sam Ewing. Sam lived outside Philadelphia, PA and was a giant in the world of Irish Wolfhounds. The two pups were born on May 24; the litter consisted of eight puppies. They're lively friendly animals, but once they were enclosed in the back of the minivan, they were clearly scared. They stuck close to one another as we journeyed through the badly surfaced back roads of rural Coulterville. About 30 minutes into the trip, Brí nudged her way to the front of the minivan. She owned that spot, not letting Bó near it, despite repeated attempts. The two of them settled in and slept for most of the trip. Only one break was needed about ninety minutes after leaving Coulterville. At a Starbucks, the two jumped out of the van, relieved themselves and were happy to get back in. The trip back to Pasadena took about four hours. Traffic was fairly light and moved well. Upon arrival, the two puppies were let loose in the backyard. They gladly ran around exploring their new domain. They were happy to be allowed inside and took to the many toys that were waiting for them. They're self-confident, friendly, well-adjusted puppies. It will be fun to watch them grow.
