August 25, 2008: Most people visit an airport one goal in mind: to leave the airport. Not so for a woman identified as Bettina. This 48-year old German reportedly lived at Spain's Palma de Mallorca airport for ten years. She lived in the airport with all her possessions: three suitcases, a cat named Mumu, a blanket and a collection of books. When she moved to Spain, Bettina took up odd jobs, including waitressing. When the jobs ran out, she ended up living in the airport terminal. Airport staff enjoys her company; Bettina spends most of her day quietly reading. She sleeps on seats in the departure lounge at night and uses airport bathrooms to wash herself in the mornings. She survives on gifts from airport staff and passengers. Bettina reports that she doesn't intend to return to Germany. She enjoys her life at the airport.
