Speaking at a conference for economists on Friday, Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke, has said that the current financial crisis continues to take a toll on the US.  The Chairman stated that "Although we have seen some improved functioning in some markets, the financial storm that reached gale force" . . . "has not yet subsided, and its effects on the broader economy are becoming apparent in the form of softening economic activity and rising unemployment."  Bernanke said that the Federal Reserve continues to monitor the situation and would take appropriate action as conditions dictate.  He stated that the current financial environment is one of the most challenging to policymakers in living memory. < Prev   Next >
