<strong><font color="#993366">September 12, 2008</font></strong>: A Union Pacific freight train and a Metrolink commuter train collided near Chatsworth north of Los Angeles on Friday afternoon at around 4:25 p.m.  The mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa has confirmed that there are fifteen dead.  Rescue crews continue to free passengers caught in the mangled wreckage; more fatalities are expected.  The train was carrying over 200 passengers, over 100 of whom were injured.
