The 8th Medical Battalion (minus Companies A and B) (8th Infantry Division) arrived on December 16, 1943.

The 8th Infantry Division was activated on July 1, 1940 and shipped to Ireland on December 5, 1943.  Elements of the Division arrived on continental Europe on July 4, 1944 via Utah Beach.  The entire division arrived in Europe on July 8.

]]> Ireland History Thu, 07 Jan 2010 23:09:33 +0000 The 1922 Northern Ireland Special Powers Act http://wellbeyondthepale.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1474:the-1922-northern-ireland-special-powers-act&catid=45:ireland-history&Itemid=57 The Civil Authorities (Special Powers) Act of Northern Ireland was signed into law in the spring of 1922.  The parliament of Northern Ireland claimed that this sweeping legislation was necessary to bring peace and stability to the newly formed province.  The Act was nullified after the parliament in Stormont was prorogued in 1973.

The text of the act follows.  Since the Act was published in 1922, any copyright on the material should have expired, though it's difficult to understand how an Act of law is something which can be protected by copyright!
