Louie has two types of shoes. The first is Paw-Tectors which are made by Pedigree Perfection in Fort Lauderdale, FL. These are great shoes. Louie tends to resist anything new, anything that changes his routine, but he had no problem walking in these booties. They're black and made of acyrlic with a fleece lining. A strap runs round the top of the boots and is anchored with Velcro. They fit snuggly on his hind paws--the only paws that need these booties. He walks perfectly normally in these shoes. The still drags his paws ocassionally, but the bleeding has stopped. The second product is Footware from Companion Road. These boots are similar to those from Paw-Tectors but are shorter. Unlike the Paw-Tectors, it's easy to tell if you've put them on upside down: the bottom of the boots are indented to help with gripping. These boots also have a strap anchored with Velcro that helps secure them in place. Louie loves his shoes.

Louie has new shoes, which he gets to wear when he goes for walks. One of the consequences of degenerative myelopathy is that Louie tends to drag his hind paws. On carpet, this behavior doesn't present a problem, but on harsh surfaces, like concrete, he tends to chip his nails which triggers bleeding. Shoes prevent this problem.
