November 13, 2009: The DUP Minister for the Environment Edwin Poots has denied allegations that there was some sort of political bias which caused his comment that a failure to agree on the new council boundaries could jeopardize the whole exercise. Some nationalist politicians believe that he is motivated to change a boundary in his local hometown of Lisburn. Mr Poots is concerned that including Dunmurry with Belfast rather than Lisburn does not make sense. Sinn Féin MLA Paul Butler has accused Poots of trying to gerrymander the recommendations of independent Boundary Commission.
