Last Wednesday, the Central Statistics Office in Ireland that the rate of unemployment had crept up to 5.1%. While the figure looks miniscule compared to rates in the 70s and 80s, the number represents a large increase compared to years when the Celtic Tiger roamed Europe. Some US companies are reducing activities in Ireland due in part to the strength of the Euro which makes Ireland uncompetitive with other countries. The population continues to grow, thanks in part to immigrants. The population is now estimated to be 4.4 million.
