You read it correctly. There is a centuries old tradition of people from Ireland joining and fighting in the British Army. During the three decades of the Troubles, that flow became a trickle; however, with peace in Ireland, volunteers have come flooding back. Recruiters in the North reported that almost one in six of those enlisting in the British Army are from South of the border.
