November 14, 2009: Enid Blyton, the British children's writer who died in 1968, was effectively banned by the BBC for thirty years. An internal BBC memo, written in 1938, was recently uncovered that showed the BBC did not consider Blyton a serious writer. Enid Blyton sold millions of copies of series such as Noddy, the Famous Five and the Secret Seven. She is the fifth most translated author in the world selling over 600 million copies: just ahead of Lenin, but behind Shakespeare.
